A Quiet Place – a review

Okay, I know that I’ve mentioned that I’m not the type to go for horror movies. But after seeing the ratings and reviews, I just had to go. Not to mention, the compelling trailer and concept really drew me in. I wasn’t really enthusiastic about it because we were going to watch it at night and I was mentally preparing myself for a sleepless night.

As the movie starts, I felt this tension seeping in. The first thing I noticed was the eerie silence. I mean, this movie is GOLD. Barely a minute in, I already knew that this would be epic. Five minutes in, everyone starts to realise that the silence is going to last. I start to hear shushing noises, people stopped playing with their phones, popcorn was being set aside. It was be quiet or be killed.

The prologue was amazing. It was heart-wrenching and scary which sets the tone for the movie. As the story unfolds, you get to know more about the situation of the world currently and about the creatures. The plot is amazing.

This movie made me so anxious for the family and so scared as well. No one in the cinema made a sound. The family theme was really prominent from the beginning. This wasn’t some plotless movie made just to scare the wits out of us. This is survival and love and sacrifice.

After the end of the movie, I couldn’t really move for a bit because I needed a moment to take it in. Also, I couldn’t really speak because I was so accustomed to the silence and that made coming out of the cinema really jarring. What with all the noises and people talking and vehicles. What really made this movie great was that it stuck with me. I kept thinking and re-playing the movie in my head. It was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. Unforgettable. 10/10 would recommend. Even if you’re not a scary movie fan.

Final verdict:
Plot: 10/10
Acting: 10/10
Suspense: 9/10
Mood: 10/10

  1. I really liked the look of this film, but don’t really enjoy scary movies. Interesting that you recommend seeing it anyway even though you fee the same way! Great review – I may have to go against the trend and watch it now! Sam xx
